When to Seek a Speech Evaluation: A Parent's Guide

Parents often wait months, sometimes years, hoping a child will "grow out of it." Sometimes they do. But early support changes outcomes, and an evaluation is simply information, not a label.

Rough milestones to watch

By 18 months: at least 10-20 words (across both languages). By 2 years: two-word combinations ("mama juice"). By 3 years: strangers understand most of what your child says. By 4: full little sentences, questions, and stories.

Signs worth an evaluation at any age

Frustration when trying to communicate, few gestures, loss of words a child used to say, stuttering that persists past 6 months, difficulty following simple directions, or reading and spelling struggles in school-age children.

What a bilingual evaluation looks like

We assess in both Russian and English, through play for younger children, and talk with you about what happens at home. You leave with a written report, clear goals, and a plan, whether or not therapy is recommended.
